Mag Drive Series

The combination of Hayward Gordon's 50 years of mixer manufacturing experience coupled with world class magnetic coupling technology has resulted in a high efficiency, heavy duty reliable sealless agitator for the process industries.

The magnetic coupling transmits torque from the gearbox output shaft to the mixing shaft by means of high strength, rare earth, Samarium Cobalt inner and outer magnets. The mixing shaft is supported by greased for life, steel, ball and roller bearings housed in a rugged drive pedestal. To prevent tank contents from entering into the drive pedestal, it is purged with nitrogen at slightly higher than the tank operating pressure to ensure a constant flow past the throttling seal and into the tank. Alternative designs include dry running ceramic bearings - no lubrication required.

  • Standard designs to 450°F and pressures to 500 psig with higher limits available on request.
  • Fractional to 30 hp range. Torque range from 100 to 13,500 in. lbs.
  • Standard shaft sizes from 1.5" to 3.5" in diameter.
  • Speed transmitter supplied as standard equipment.
  • Minimum L-10 bearing lives of 100,000 hrs.
  • Full range of Hayward Gordon impellers available.

HRF Series

The Hayward Gordon HRF series mixers handle agitation requirements in the transition range between small top entering propeller and large turbine mixers. They are suited to many applications with moderate batch size, particularly where viscosity is high or where the process demands turbine performance characteristics.

  • Available with standard baseplate or a wide selection of shaft seals from a simple V-ring to special high temperature, high pressure mechanical seals).
  • Open tank mixers are supplied with a flanged cartridge ball bearing with an additional lip seal beneath the bearing to protect against product contamination.
  • Variable speed units can be supplied fitted with an AC motor and variable frequency controller; DC motor and SCR; or fixed centre mechanical variable speed drive.
  • Generous shaft diameters and sturdy bearing supports permit adequate shaft extensions without stabilizers or steady bearings.
  • For extra-long shaft extensions, stabilizer rings or foot bearing are available.
  • Size and speed ranges of the HRF series substantially overlap conventional propeller and turbine capacities, offering a wide choice of units in this transition range.

ST Series

ST reducers are engineered and manufactured specifically to withstand the demanding loads imposed on the drive by most mixing applications. The large bending moment created by the cantilevered mixing shaft and impeller is largely isolated from the gearing by the unique output bearing arrangement. All helical gearing with exceptional load carrying capacity ensures highly efficient and dependable transfer of energy into the process fluid.

  • Rugged cast-iron housing - accepts mixing stresses while maintaining accurate gear alignment and resisting corrosion.
  • Convenient C-face motor adapter - this fully registered adapter ensures fast, positive motor alignment, eliminates hassles with V-belts, sheaves and guards, and simplifies installation with a flexible coupling.
  • High-strength helical gearing - all-helical gearing is designed for high efficiency and maximum load carrying capacity with reserve strength rating. All gears are AGMA Quality 10.
  • No-leak drywell construction - oil sump is isolated from output shaft to prevent gear lubricants from leaking and contaminating the product being mixed.
  • Unique low speed bearing arrangement -High-capacity, spherical-roller, mixer shaft bearing isolates impeller loads from gearing and provides high moment capacity. Tapered roller bearings accept high thrust loads in either direction.
  • Re-greasable low speed bearings - upper tapered roller bearing and bottom spherical roller bearing are grease lubricated and field re-greasable for easy maintenance. Lower tapered roller bearing is oil-lubricated.
  • Simple, positive lubrication - sealed, grease-lubricated upper high-speed and intermediate bearings and oil-lubricated lower bearings reduce oil levels, churning and foaming for cooler operation. Large oil capacity also helps keep the unit cooler for maximum life. A magnetic oil drain plug is provided.
  • Easy maintenance - easily accessible oil fill opening and oil drain plugs let you perform required maintenance without removing any covers or guards. Standard, automotive-type, quick-check dipstick allows fast, easy oil checks.
  • Typical mounting options -open tank, stuffing box, double or single mechanical seal.

MB Series

The MB mixer series is available in seven standard gearbox sizes covering intermediate capacity fluid mixing applications. Typical motor sizes range from 3 to 200 hp and 21 standard output speeds are available between 230 and 6 rpm.

  • Rugged steel housing - effectively resists shock loads and stresses associated with mixing applications and maintains accurate gear alignment.
  • Large oil capacity - lowers operating temperature to help oil retain higher viscosity, extending gear, bearing and seal life. Auxiliary cooling systems are also available.
  • Proven high-hardness helical gearing - engineered to exceed AGMA standards with a reserve strength rating, the surface-hardened, precision ground, long-life helical gears deliver a smooth, strong, efficient power flow. Large tooth profile provides extra strength to handle high-shock loads. All gears are AGMA Quality 10.
  • Precision spiral bevel gearing - surface hardening and finish lapping ensure smooth, quiet operation and greater gear efficiency.
  • Oversized alloy steel shaft - considerably larger in diameter than standard reducer output shafts, the solid alloy steel shaft has adequate stiffness to withstand high mixer shaft loads.
  • No-leak drywell construction -a drywell isolates the low-speed output shaft from the oil sump to prevent lubricants from leaking and contaminating your product.
  • High capacity bearings -bearings used throughout the drive are the highest quality anti-friction taper rolling bearings which can provide L-10 life of 100,000 hours at continuous design speed and horsepower.
  • Shaft sealing -for maximum protection and for safety when dealing with hazardous chemicals many types of sealing options are available, including single mechanical seals and double wet or dry running mechanical seals. Stuffing box seals, lip seals and open tank configurations are also available.

LH Series

The LH mixer drive, designed and manufactured by mixing specialists, are sufficiently conservative to withstand the severe torque and bending loads of large mixing applications. Our robust design, incorporating over-sized output shafts, large L-10 bearing lives and conservative service factoring, combined with a simplified design approach, results in exceptional value for our customers.

  • Drive housings are stress-relieved, reinforced, fabricated steel.
  • Highly efficient all helical, precision manufactured gearing features longer gear life, greater load-carrying capacity and quieter operation.
  • Taper roller bearings throughout the gearbox with minimum L-10 bearing lives of 100,000 Hrs.
  • Positive splash lubrication to all rotating parts eliminates the need for oil pumps.
  • To eliminate the possibility of oil leakage down the output shaft, all units are provided with drywell construction.
  • Standard D-flange motors are mounted vertically for compact design and eliminates the need for shimming the motor. V-belt inputs are also offered for maximum flexibility in case of process changes.
